By default, every task you create is visible to every volunteer. Task segmentation lets you narrow that down so a task only appears for volunteers who match the criteria you set.
Where to configure segmentation
Segmentation is set in the Visibility section of the task creation or edit form in Task Management. You'll see it below the task name and description fields.
Segmentation dimensions
You can segment by four dimensions:
Programs
Select one or more programs. Only volunteers enrolled in at least one of the selected programs will see the task. Leave empty to include all programs.
Activities
Select one or more activities (filtered by the programs you've selected). Only volunteers enrolled in at least one of the selected activities will see the task. This option only appears if you've selected specific programs.
Roles
Select one or more volunteer roles. Only volunteers who hold at least one of the selected roles will see the task.
Permission Level
In the Advanced section, select a minimum permission level (General Volunteer, Activity Leader, Program Manager, or Admin). Only volunteers at that level or above will see the task. The default is no restriction.
How dimensions combine
Within a single dimension, selections are combined with OR logic. If you select Program A and Program B, the task appears for volunteers in either program.
Between dimensions, the logic is AND. A volunteer must match at least one selection in every dimension you've configured. For example, if you select Programs A and B, and Role "Driver", the task appears for volunteers who are in Program A or B, and hold the Driver role.
If you leave a dimension empty, it defaults to "all" for that dimension.
What happens when volunteers match or stop matching
When a volunteer matches the segmentation criteria, the task appears in their task list on My Elements. If they later stop matching (for example, they leave a program or have a role removed), the task disappears from their list. If they've already completed the task, the completion record is preserved.
